1 Baht = 100 Satang (Bt, THB)

Notes are in denominations of 1000, 500, 100, 50 and 20 Bt.
Coins come in denominations of 10, 5, 2 and 1 Bt and 50 and 25 satang.
There are also a lot of commemorative coins that have legal tender status.

Currency exchange

You can change money at banks, hotels and in the authorized money dealer exchange offices.
The exchange dealers offer the best rates. Attention! in rural areas and tourist centers banknotes from 200 Bt can be difficult to change.

EC-cards

EC-cards with the Cirrus or Maestro symbol are usually accepted. For more information, contact
your bank.

Travelers cheques

Euro and U.S. dollar travelers cheques can be redeemed in banks, major hotels and shops.

Credit cards

Credit and debit cards such as Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Euro Card are accepted.
The Diners Club card less so.
Nationwide, cash in local currency can be withdrawn from ATM's with credit and debit cards
with a PIN number.

The opening times of banks

The opening times of banks are 08.30/09.30 to 15.30h Monday to Friday (Lunch hour 12.00-13.00, banks are closed).
In the tourist areas, the exchange offices of banks are usually open until late at night.

Foreign exchange regulations

The importation and exportation of foreign currency up to the equivalent of max.
USD 20.000, - do not have to be declared, higher amounts are unlimited, but must be declared
on entry and exit.
The export of local currency to the amount of Baht 50,000 is allowed.
The import of local currency is unlimited.
